Jordan Cockrell

Science

Jordan Cockrell was born and raised in the Birmingham area. After high school, she moved to Mobile, AL to attend the University of South Alabama.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Spanish Language.  During college, she was a part of the Honors Program, which gave her the opportunity to do research with a professor in the Biomedical Science department and write and defend a thesis on her research.  She was also able to study abroad in Salamanca, Spain to further her understanding of Spanish language and culture.  After completing college, she moved back home to Birmingham and completed her Master of Public Health degree in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  During her graduate studies, she became a private tutor, which inspired her passion for teaching.  When given the opportunity to become a science teacher at Spring Valley, she jumped at the chance. Since teaching at Spring Valley, Jordan has taught a variety of classes, including Biology, Forensic Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Life Science, Health, Spanish, Career Prep, and ACT Prep.  She is also the faculty advisor for the Student Council.  She hopes to pass along her passion for science to her students through activity-based and hands-on learning and labs.  Outside of school, Jordan enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, daughter, and two (very large) dogs.
