Joanie Scott was born in Denver, Colorado but was raised in upstate New York with five siblings.  She graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in finance. She worked for a government contractor in Massachusetts as a pricing analyst. An opportunity arose in St. Petersburg, Florida with another government contractor, so she moved South and worked first as a pricing analyst for 9 1/2 years, and then 1 1/5 years as a contract manager. During that time she pursued her MBA with a concentration in contracts. She met her husband while there, and when her first son was born she retired from Raytheon. She had two wonderful boys who kept her very busy.   During that time, she also earned her preschool teaching certificate, and worked for a couple of years at the preschool her sons were attending.  After moving to Birmingham in 2008, her son joined Spring Valley School, where Joanie began volunteering as much as possible. In 2015, an opportunity opened up for her to join the Spring Valley team as an administrative assistant, and in 2016 she became Business Manager.  Joanie feels blessed to have found the SVS and now enjoys working with the amazing teachers and staff on a daily basis.
