SVS Welcomes Second Speech-Language Pathologist

Spring Valley School (SVS) is honored to announce that a second part-time Speech-Language Pathologist will be joining the team beginning in August of 2023.

Spring Valley School (Birmingham, AL) exists to provide excellence in education for bright students with specific language-based and mathematics-based learning differences including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia. Our Speech-Language Pathologists are integral to helping our students succeed in the areas of speech and language, and giving them the tools they need to excel across the curriculum.

Introducing SVS Speech-Language Pathologist, Abbie Wood, M.S., CCC-SLP:

Abbie graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelors degree in Communicative Disorders and a Masters of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology.

After college she worked as a speech-language pathologist in a rehabilitation center outside of Atlanta, GA for a year then, transitioned to the school setting in Cobb County, GA for a year. She moved to Birmingham in 2015 and has been an SLP for Leeds City Schools for the past eight years. In addition, she also worked part time for Puzzle Piece for the past seven years, and has also served as a clinical supervisor for speech language pathology graduate students from Samford University for eight years.

"I have a passion for the pediatric population and am grateful to be a small part of my students’ lives. Every child brings a new and valuable perspective. I enjoy being able to empower children with the ability to communicate, learn, grow and build relationships with others," Abbie said.

Abbie and her husband, Stephen, have two beautiful baby boys, McDonough (3) and James (7 months). Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing tennis, going for walks, going to the beach, and traveling.

Please join the SVS Family in giving Abbie a warm welcome!
