Dyslexia Awareness Month

Spring Valley School spent the month of October dedicated to raising awareness for Dyslexia and ADHD. Check out our recap of events:

OCTOBER 10, 2019 -- At the State Board of Education Meeting, SVS third grader Luke Griffis raised a hand in recognition of October as Dyslexia Awareness Month! Alabama Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey was also joined by Gladys Schaefer, IDA-AL President and Director of the Hettie Johnson Institute at Spring Valley, at the delivery of the Resolution.

OCTOBER 15, 2019 -- The Spring Valley family made great strides for Dyslexia awareness with a school-wide Wear Red Day! We also shared in a time of assembling goody bags for our special guests who joined us at Spring Valley for the IDA-AL Fall Reading Conference: Rise to the Challenge!

OCTOBER 18-19, 2019 -- The IDA-AL Fall Reading Conference: Rise to the Challenge -- For these two full days of professional development, SVS served as a space for collaboration and fellowship surrounding the topic of Dyslexia and how to support students as they rise to daily challenges in the classroom and beyond.

Additionally, the Hoover and Bessemer Public Libraries partnered with The Hettie Johnson Institute and the SVS Junior Board to display books by Dyslexic authors and books that feature Dyslexia characters as a means for raising awareness during the month of October!

Thank you for joining SVS in #RedeemingRed! #1in5 #Untileverychildcanread
