CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

  • Morning Workout: These workouts will focus on developing fitness and body awareness. Workouts will consist of breathing and mindfulness exercises, light cardio and strength building.

  • Writing/ELA Camp: Join us this summer as we cultivate the delight of writing, from journals and poetry to narrations and essays. Being able to access and utilize the mechanics behind good writing gives us the power to transform our educational experience. Beatrix Potter said, “There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they’ll take you.” Our faculty’s unique expertise working alongside students with learning differences has deeply enhanced our ability to help learners make tremendous gains in their writing capabilities. “I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.” - Anne Frank

  • Cooking Camp (lower school only): Budding chefs will enjoy fun-filled days of hands-on cooking experience. They will explore different flavors as well as use fractions and math skills to cultivate their treats. One day will consist of a farm-to-table cooking class where campers will use produce from local farms.

  • Executive Functioning Camp (middle/upper school only): Is life chaotic? Lost papers? Messy rooms? Too much to do and too little time to do it? Executive Function is the cognitive ability to organize and prioritize life into manageable and enjoyable portions, much as an air traffic controller does at a busy airport. Students with learning differences often have struggles in this arena. Join us as we share research-based tools for addressing EF issues, as well as deepen our understanding of this complex topic. This hands-on workshop will provide time-tested and proven techniques that have the potential to make life much more peaceful for the entire family.

  • Environmental Awareness Camp: We will explore several aspects of environmental science including spiders of Alabama, local stream health, out impact of our environment, and being ready for survival in an unknown environment. Many aspects will include outside exploration of our local environment.

  • STEAM Camp: Calling all innovators! Spring Valley School's STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) is open to all students entering grades 2nd - 12th. STEAM Camp offers hands on, problem-solving, critical thinking, communications, and leadership skills through fun, engaging activities. This camp is perfect for retaining math and science skills.
