Prescriptive Learning
Student achievement at Spring Valley is research-driven, resulting in prescriptive education and intervention for each individual student.
SVS collects psychometric student achievement data through several avenues such as our dyslexia therapy program Take Flight and AimsWeb testing. These are verified and standardized metrics that we use in order to track a student's growth and for ongoing progress monitoring while they are here.
Take Flight is a comprehensive intervention program designed specifically for students with dyslexia, utilizing structured literacy and multi-sensory teaching methods. It provides detailed, individualized data through lesson-based assessments, allowing us to identify patterns in a student's reading development.
AimsWeb is another tool we employ, offering norm-referenced benchmarks and progress monitoring in areas such as reading fluency, comprehension, and math. The data collected is both frequent and precise, helping us detect even small changes in a student's academic performance over time.
Together, these data sources contribute to a prescriptive approach to education. By identifying each student’s specific learning profile—including strengths and areas of need—we can tailor interventions that directly address those needs.
For students with learning differences, this means designing customized instructional plans, modifying teaching strategies, and targeting support services to help close academic gaps effectively.
Additionally, by utilizing predictive algorithms, we can analyze trends and patterns across similar student profiles. This not only allows us to anticipate future academic performance, but also helps us proactively identify specific areas of targeted need -- even before they fully emerge. As a result, interventions can be implemented earlier and with greater precision, supporting student success in a more timely and effective way.

AimsWeb Plus is a benchmark assessment system that effectively tracks individual student progress (grades 1-8 at SVS) in the subject areas of reading and math for the purpose of informing curriculum development, parent insight into their student's progress, and school-wide decision making on instruction.
