Jordan Cockrell
Jordan Cockrell is an Upper School Science Teacher at Spring Valley School, holding a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of South Alabama and a Master of Public Health in Health Care Organization and Policy, with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also has experience as a private ACT tutor, working with many students from SVS.
Jordan received the Lucy Welsh Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2019, which reflects her commitment to educational excellence. She is involved in House Council and enjoys activities such as reading, cross-stitching, and taking her kids to the ice skating rink for figure skating and hockey.
In her teaching, Jordan appreciates working in smaller settings, allowing her to form meaningful connections with her students. This understanding helps her provide tailored support to each student. She teaches various engaging classes, including forensics, biology with creative projects like Cell Cakes, and hands-on chemistry labs.
Jordan believes that learning differences indicate that a student's brain works differently, not that they lack intelligence. She emphasizes that all her students are bright and creative, simply requiring different approaches to learning. Her ability to differentiate lessons in small classes allows her to effectively meet the unique needs of her students.
