Jocelyn Burrill

Jocelyn Burrill serves as the Dean of Curriculum & Accreditation at Spring Valley School and also holds instructional roles as a Career Prep Instructor and Dual Enrollment Course Advisor. She has an Ed.M. in Reading Education from Boston University and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Grove City College. Prior to joining Spring Valley, she taught Middle School English and 5th grade in Massachusetts.

Jocelyn loves hiking, enjoying nature with her family, and listening to audiobooks on Audible. At Spring Valley, she deeply values the small-school environment, which allows her to teach the same students for multiple years. This continuity enables her to build meaningful relationships and witness her students' personal and academic growth over time. She finds great fulfillment in watching students become more empowered and confident during their time at Spring Valley.

One of Jocelyn's teaching highlights is the Career Exploration and College Search units, which guide students through important self-reflection and future planning. She emphasizes that, while students with learning differences (LDs) face academic challenges, they often possess exceptional strengths in other areas, and Spring Valley’s holistic approach plays a crucial role in their success. By addressing executive functioning, anxiety, and self-esteem issues in addition to academics, the school helps students make significant progress and equips them for their next steps.

Jocelyn celebrates the school’s commitment to offering individualized opportunities, such as independent studies and special programs. She shares examples like a student interested in anatomy who received one-on-one instruction, and another who, after faculty nominations, participated in a research fellowship with Harvard Student Agencies.
