Jennifer Crocker
Jennifer Crocker is a passionate History Teacher and Dyslexia Therapist at Spring Valley School. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (U.A.B.). With a diverse teaching background, Jennifer has taught middle school history, English, science, and math, in addition to her work in dyslexia therapy. She is also a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP).
Jennifer leads Language Lunch Clubs in Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) and enjoys spending her free time with her family, reading, and caring for her pets, which include cats, dogs, songbirds, and various plants. She finds inspiration in watching students who are initially reserved and shut down blossom in a community that fosters safety and acceptance.
Believing that all students want to succeed, Jennifer emphasizes the importance of teaching in relatable ways while demonstrating patience and extending grace. She incorporates effective strategies like Power Word Review into her daily schedule to enhance students' understanding of lessons and prepare them for tests. Her students have particularly enjoyed engaging hands-on projects, such as creating 3D models of ancient Egypt.
Jennifer advocates for the understanding that students with learning differences are not lazy; they often require the right environment for their strengths to shine. She firmly believes that individuals with dyslexia can learn to read with skilled intervention, time, and hard work. Committed to the success of her students, Jennifer continually evaluates and modifies her teaching methods to better serve their needs.
