Admission Process

Schedule a tour. Call our Administrative Assistant (205-423-8660) and schedule a tour and initial parent interview with Spring Valley’s Executive Director. This is a time for the parent(s) and the Executive Director to discuss the individual needs of the student, so we prefer that the applicant not attend this meeting. 

Submit Completed Application Forms

Please complete and submit an application form (Click here to print out application) along with a $75 application fee as well as the records listed in the application requirements. Click here for the Application Requirement Checklist. Submission of records can be done at the time of the interview. 

Evaluation of records

After the application process is complete, the Spring Valley Admission Committee will meet to evaluate the file. If the documentation and records provided by the parents indicate that the student might be an appropriate placement, a time for visitation will be arranged. 

Student Visit

The applicant will visit Spring Valley and will participate in regular classroom activities.  Lower School visitors typically spend the morning at Spring Valley while Middle and Upper School applicants spend the entire day. If school is not in session, an interview with the Executive Director is required. Please review our guidelines for visiting student applicants.

Admission Committee Meeting

Spring Valley follows strict admission criteria as set forth by the Board. This allows us to identify students that are most appropriate for us to serve. 

Parent Notification

Acceptance:

The Admission Committee has determined that the applicant is an appropriate match and an opening is available at the appropriate grade level. 

Wait Listed:

The Admission Committee has determined that the applicant is an appropriate match; however, a space at the appropriate grade level is not currently available. Spring Valley has a rolling admissions process, and we enroll students whenever a space becomes available. 

Non-acceptance:

The Admission Committee has determined that a Spring Valley placement is not a good match for your child’s educational strengths and weaknesses. 
 

Contract Signed

A contract must be signed and returned to the school along with a non-refundable $750 registration fee. This fee secures the child’s placement at the school. 

Registration Package

Once a student is accepted, a registration package will be mailed to the parents.  Parents should review and complete the various forms within this package before the student begins attending Spring Valley.

Spring Valley School makes admission decisions based upon the information that parents/legal guardians provide. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for full disclosure.
